Statues

It seems from time to time

When I look around

People erect statues

Just to bring them down

We all know the rules

And all the history

Dictators and tyrants

Selling their beliefs

We love the great leaders

For our spirits, they do lift

We will chant and praise and follow them

Right off the fucking cliff

Mussolini, Stalin, Hitler

And a newer one we see

I won’t mention any name

So you won’t get mad at me

But the good guys always win

After we’ve all been beaten down

Sometimes it takes some time

Before what went comes back around

Not much longer until we see

A statue erected somewhere

Who’s bronze lips are pouting

With combed over yellow hair

It’ll take some time to realize

That his promises were not real

It’ll be hard for us to see

We made a shitty deal

Okay, maybe we were warned

By radicalized snowflakes

Whining and crying

But we’d never listen anyway

Because we want a reason

To stomp our feet and complain

And fight again for freedom

We accidentally gave away

And I’m sure in given time

We’ll be better and be great

And have another election

And make the same mistake

We’ll build another statue

Of another corrupt clown

And fight among each other

Until we agree to bring it down
